Ever since I started running home to Brooklyn a few nights a week, I’ve come to realize how big/small Manhattan is. I run down the Hudson Greenway from Canal to Warren and across the island over the Brooklyn Bridge (which is a pedestrian nightmare for a runner - even worse than the streets), then down the East River Promenade to Red Hook. All-in-all about 5 miles and I go up or down the Hudson if I need to throw in extra miles. But running across downtown Manhattan takes about 5 minutes. Tiny.
