dankoeck:

Richard Avedon’s Minneapolis hangout:   This is a snapshot of a Richard Avedon print hanging in The Black Forest Inn in Minneapolis.  Avedon spent a lot of time in this south-side restaurant and bar in 1970 while organizing one of his first museum shows at the nearby Minneapolis Institute of Arts.  In appreciation for the hospitality he received at the inn, Avedon gave this signed print to the owners.

In 1986, a bar patron pulled a pistol and shot two bullets into the print.  The gunman later said, “That photo always bugged the hell out of me.”  Despite the shooting incident, The Black Forest Inn has always been known as a cozy neighborhood watering hole for local artists.

Did they paint the walls?
